Student accommodation for courses in Bath
We offer various types of accommodation for Languages United students coming to Bath for their course. Our speciality is homestay accommodation, but we can also offer and recommend accommodation in hostels, hotels, bed & breakfasts, and serviced apartments.
We have a dedicated Accommodation Team who will help you choose the right accommodation for you and ensure that you have a great experience during your stay in Bath.
Homestay accommodation
Staying in a homestay (host family) is a great way to practise and improve your English as well as make new friends and meet new people. You will be treated as a member of the household, eating together and sharing common living areas.
For adults, accommodation is provided in single rooms.
Junior students typically share a room - either with students from other countries (during Summer School) or members of their own group (outside of summer or by request during summer). The number of students sharing will depend on the room size but is limited to four.
Friends and families can share by request at the time of booking. Private bathrooms and special diets (e.g. gluten free, vegan, halal) are also available on request at an additional cost.
Accommodation for adults is provided on a half-board basis (breakfast and evening meal). Junior students on a package course that includes accommodation will be provided with three meals per day (breakfast, lunch and evening meals).
Students will normally travel to and from their homestay accommodation using public transport (local buses), unless the house is within walking distance. Please note that bus passes are not included within your course unless it is part of an agreed package.
The following will be provided for all students:
- A clean tidy room with a desk or table (or another room providing these).
- Adequate storage for clothes.
- A comfortable bed.
- Change of bed linen every two weeks.
- Laundry is cleaned by the host once per week for machine washable clothes.
- Facility to have a shower every day with adequate hot water and towels available.
- Sufficient light and heat.
Quality and safety of homestays are very important to us: all of our homestay accommodation is organised by our own Accommodation Team, not through any external agency. Homestays are regularly inspected by our team and have specific criteria that they must satisfy. Homestays hosting students under 18 are required to hold a DBS (police check) certificate.
If you are interested in becoming a homestay host, please visit our Hosting Students page.

Hostel accommodation
Our hostel accommodation is provided by YMCA and YHA hostels.
YMCA Bath
Situated in the centre of the city, it is just 2 minutes' walk from our school on Walcot Street. It is a friendly hostel with communal areas, games, kitchen facilities and an on-site gym with discount for guests.
Meals are not usually provided for individual guests, but guests can heat up their own meals and eat in the canteen. The YMCA can provide meals for groups of 20+ students.
YHA Bath
The hostel is located in a beautiful Italianate style building, a short bus ride away from the school.
There is a café, restaurant and bar where drinks and meals are served all day.
Both hostels offer a variety of rooms, private and shared - please ask us for prices and availability at the time of booking.
Hostel accommodation is available to individuals aged 18 and over, and to junior groups accompanied by a group leader.
Other accommodation
We can suggest other accommodation to suit your requirements, including hotels, family accommodation, Bed & Breakfast, and serviced private apartments. If you would like some advice, please contact us with your requirements.
If you wish, you can make your own arrangements to live in private rented accommodation. You may be responsible for signing a tenancy agreement, your laundry and cooking, and paying bills such as internet and other utilities. If you would like to discuss this before making your own arrangements, please speak to a member of our Welfare and Accommodation Team.
